As part of their residency at AdaX, the Collective “A Nos Prothèses” invites you to a hackfest at M-A-I, May 26 and 27, 2023.

A hackfest is a convivial and festive, often feminist and speculative version of hackhatons. This hackfest will allow participants to build, tinker, repair, subvert, affirm, deepen (…) our relationship to our prostheses (somatic, digital, urban and political) by approaching them as ‘occulted commons’.

Among the values we privilege: feminist, decolonial and antiableist forms of hacking, crip time, (s)low tech. This hackfest invites a collective contemplation of what diversity, accessibility, intimacy and conviviality mean in the way we live and dream our prostheses.

Format:
Inspired by the Open Space methodology, the agenda of activities will be built together. On site, there will also be island/spaces dedicated to drawing, story sharing, sewing, doodling, writing and three-dimensional modeling (…), using recycled or inexpensive materials.

These islands will allow us to share stories of prostheses, and to make and reinvent our ordinary prostheses (e.g., denture making, cane-recording pole hybridization, Braille graffiti, personal charging station)…

Spaces:
We will have access to a space with natural light (the M-A-I café), an enclosed space (the M-A-I gallery) and an outdoor space (Lucia Kowaluk Park). Care will be taken to create a space dedicated to rest, with subdued light and a quiet sound environment.
